CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Cullman County Sheriff tells FOX6 News that four teenagers have been charged with felony second degree theft and animal cruelty after stealing, beating and then throwing a baby goat from a bridge.

The incident happened last week. The teens allegedly stole the young goat from a property, beat it, tied it up, and then threw it over a bridge at County Roads 1216 and 1218. Deputies say the goat didn't die after the 18 foot drop but lay suffering until it drowned.

The alleged crime came to light because some other teens did the right thing. Rainey says that the four filmed the whole thing and then showed other students at West Point High School. Those students were upset after seeing the alleged video. They told a school counselor, who alerted the school resource officer.

"They recognized it as being cruel and unusual that somebody would do something like that, so they were alarmed by it," Chief Deputy Max Bartlett said.

The teens' names have been withheld because three are 14-years-old and one is 15-years-old. They are being held at the Cullman County Juvenile Detention Center.

The goat's owner plans to prosecute.
