WALTON, KY (FOX19) -

Four people, including two kids, were transported to the hospital after a late night apartment fire on Wednesday.

Dispatchers say the fire broke out at an apartment complex on Kuchle Drive, located near Walton-Verona High School. Officials say the fire began in a first floor bedroom.

A neighbor of the apartment building tells FOX19 that a disabled woman living in the building crawled out of the building to alert a him of the fire. The woman sustained second-degree burns and was treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation. She has since been released from the hospital.

Authorities say a mother and her two teen sons were rescued from the second floor of the building. The family was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation and released.

At the time of the fire, 7 of the 8 units in the building were occupied. Six of the 7 occupied apartments will reopen tomorrow.

Red cross was called to assist the displaced residents.

There is no word on damages and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
