AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
We are just days away from across the
board spending cuts which could leave millions of Americans without jobs.
The sequester budget could also have a
huge impact on Augusta's homeless community.
Gregory White is homeless and says he struggles to get by.
"This is how I make my living basically, by washing windows,"
said White.
He lives off his food stamps and he's worried the across the
board spending cuts will take away $80 a month.
"I get $240 a month and with the cuts I might get $150 to
$160," White, said.
He says if that happens he won't be able to buy used clothes
anymore.
Ralph Merritt is also homeless and he says he's been
searching for work. But with officials estimating more than a million jobs will
be cut if the sequester happens - makes his prospects of getting hired even
worse…but he and White still have hope.
"Somewhere there's going to be something for me, somewhere
there's going to be work."
"The old saying goes, prepare for the worst, wish for the
best, something like that."
The spending cuts will become reality on
Friday if Congress and the President can't reach a deal.
