NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputies arrested two East Texas men after they allegedly used a tractor of their own to steal another tractor and a Bush Hog mower from a residence on County Road 262.

Joey Van Cooper Smith, 26, of Garrison, and David Heath Parker, 23, of Cushing, were both charged with a state-jail felony charge of theft between $1,500 and $20,000. Parker was also charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance less than or equal to 4 grams, which is also a felony. No bail has been set for either man.

According to a press release from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the area of CR 262 in reference to a theft in progress Monday. When the deputies got to that part of the county, they found Smith on his tractor with the stolen Bush Hog.

Further investigation revealed that Smith and Parker had attempted to steal a tractor that was parked in a wooded area behind a home on CR 262, the press release stated. The two men allegedly used another tractor to pull the stolen tractor out of a wooded area and crank.

At that point, both men chugged off on their respective tractors in different directions. After the deputies found Smith on his tractor, they found the stolen tractor abandoned at a residence on Appleby Sand Road. Parker had already fled the scene at that point, the press release stated.

The NCSO issued a warrant for Parker's arrest, and he was arrested the next day.
