ALLIANCE, OH (WOIO) -

An Alliance man charged in a major indoor marijuana growing operation.

On Tuesday, Detectives with the Alliance Police Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant on S. Seneca Avenue. The search warrant was the result of a 30-day investigation into illegal cultivation of marijuana.

The detectives, assisted by members of the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Patrol Division, entered the residence without incident at 8 p.m. Officers located what is believed to be the largest indoor marijuana growing operation in Alliance Police Department history.

Located in four rooms of the home were 260 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, up to approx 6 feet in height. Also found was an elaborate lighting and ventilation system, fertilizing system and growing aids. Also among the items found was over $7,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from the grow operation, scales, packaging and shipping materials, records, computers and documents.

Robert Baumgartner, 41, was found leaving the home as officers arrived, and was taken into custody without incident.

Baumgartner has been charged with illegal cultivation of marijuana, trafficking in marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia.
