BRUNSWICK, OH (WOIO) -

An elderly woman was killed in an early morning fire in Brunswick.

"She was really close to us and to our family. My son helped take care of her," said a neighbor.

The fire started at a condo complex on Doral Drive around 4:45 a.m. Other residents were evacuated while crews from five fire departments helped to bring the blaze under control.

The elderly victim, identified as 78-year-old Delia Kuzda, was found deceased inside her home.

Neighbors tell 19 Action News Kuzda used a walker and a wheelchair, and called for help on her life-alert device.

The fire remains under investigation by local and state fire investigators but authorities believe the cause was accidental. They say the fire started either by an electrical short or by smoking.

Estimated property and content damage is $250K.
