AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Two Richmond County men have been arrested for operating video gambling machines at a gas station.

Richmond Co. Investigators arrested Hemant Phutane and Mukundlal Jayswal around 7:00 Tuesday morning at the C-Mart Gas Station located at 3403 Mike Padgett Hwy.

They face felony charges of commercial gambling, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a gambling device and keeping a gambling device.

Phutane is the store owner. Jayswal is Phutane's father-in-law and store clerk.

According to investigators, RCSO received several complaints about gambling activity going on at the C-Mart.

Undercover officers went into the store and confirmed video gambling machines were operating and cash payouts were being made.

After months of investigation, officers executed search warrants and arrested the two men.

All video gambling machines were confiscated as well as $56,000 in cash.

Operating most video gambling machines is legal, but cash payouts are illegal.
