HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The investigation continues in the deaths of a woman and one of her children
in south Huntsville.
Law enforcement officers responded to a home on Chicamauga Trail
Sunday morning, after being called out for a welfare check.
When officers arrived, they found the bodies of 32-year-old Krista
Stone and 7-year-old Zachary Stone.
Their causes of death have not been released, but Coroner Craig Whisenant
said they were not shot or stabbed. They are waiting on autopsy results to
release cause of death.
Investigators arrested the victim's husband, 33-year-old Stephen
"Marc" Stone, after he turned himself in at the Leeds Police
Department. Investigators said Stone's mother lives in Leeds.
Stone was brought back to Huntsville and booked into the Metro Jail on
two counts of capital murder. He is being held without bond.
According to Huntsville Police, the couple's other two younger children are
in the care and custody of their grandparents.
Investigators spent Monday looking for a motive.
Stone has no criminal past, and neighbors said there was no sign of domestic
violence, which is why no one can figure out why this happened.
The family was involved at The Rock Family Worship Center, and Zachary Stone
was a student at Mountain Gap Elementary School. School counselors were on hand
for students Monday.
Both Marc and Krista worked at Crestwood Medical Center.
"The Crestwood family is a saddened by this tragedy," said a
spokesperson in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the
family, friends, and fellow coworkers."
