CHICOPEE, MA (WSHM) -

St. Patrick's Day was four weeks from Saturday and our area's cities and towns continue to honor the Pioneer Valley's Irish heritage.

Saturday evening, Chicopee crowned its Colleen for 2013.

The winner was McKenzie Vershon. The 20-year-old attends Framingham State University.

Vershon beat out 23 other young women who submitted applications for the contest, according to CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican.

Along with parade day participation, the winner gets the opportunity to take a trip to Ireland.

This year's coronation ball was held at the Castle of Knights on Memorial Drive.
