LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police have identified the person believed to be responsible for the deadly shooting and subsequent vehicle collision that resulted in three deaths on the Las Vegas Strip Thursday.

Police believe Ammar Harris, 26, fired the shots that set the deadly chain of events in motion. Harris is described as 5'11, 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He also goes by the name Ammar Asim Faruq Harris and variations of that name.

At approximately 4:20 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to the intersection of Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard to investigate reports of a multi-vehicle collision. Arriving officers determined the deadly collision was caused by a vehicle which abruptly entered the intersection after being involved in an altercation during which shots were fired.

The altercation is believed to have originated in the valet parking area of the Aria hotel and casino. Harris, the suspected driver of a black Range Rover, allegedly discharged several rounds from a firearm into a Maserati driven by Kenneth Cherry.

Both vehicles continued northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard. The Maserati entered the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, causing a multi-car collision. One of the vehicles involved was a taxi cab which caught fire following the collision.

Metro confirmed the Range Rover was found at Meridien Luxury Condo complex on Flamingo Road, where Harris resides.

Harris has an extensive and violent criminal history and is considered to be armed and dangerous. He has several distinctive tattoos including a heart-shaped tattoo below his right eye and a large owl tattoo on his neck.

This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with any information as to Harris' whereabouts or information concerning this incident is urged to contact Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555. You may also leave information online at www.crimestoppersofnv.com. If Harris is sighted, citizens are urged to call 911.
