Teen takes gun to North Augusta church youth event

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) -

A 14 year old accidentally took a gun to a North Augusta church youth event Friday night.

North Augusta Public Safety says the teen had a .45 caliber handgun inside his book bag, and later his jacket, at a youth event at First Baptist Church in North Augusta.

Other teens saw the weapon and notified the on-site public safety officer, who confiscated the gun.

Investigators do not believe the teen brought the weapon to the event intentionally.

The teen was turned over to his parents, and is charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Investigators the event is for middle school students, and is usually attended by 150-175 students.
