OH driver's BAC 4 times over limit in crash that killed 4

COLUMBUS, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol has received confirmation from the Montgomery County Coroner's Office that the quadruple-fatal crash on Interstate 75 Dec. 23, was alcohol-related.

The driver of the at-fault vehicle, Joshua Nkansah, 40, of Fairfield, OH, was found to have a blood alcohol content of .346 – more than four times the legal limit.

The crash occurred when Nkansah began driving his Dodge minivan the wrong way on I-75, near milepost 35 in Warren County. He struck a Chrysler minivan head-on, killing Michelle and Scott Barhorst, of Madisonville, TN.

Nkansah and his son, David, 7, were also killed as a result of the crash.

Four children in the Barhorst vehicle and one additional child in the Nkansah vehicle received serious injuries, but survived the crash.

"Impaired driving has life-altering consequences, as demonstrated in this horrible crash," said Col. John Born, OSHP superintendent. "This crash underscores the Patrol's resolve to remove these dangerous drivers from Ohio's roadways."

In 2012, there were 12,168 OVI-related crashes on Ohio's roadways, which was a 14 percent decrease from 2011 when there were 14,220.

OSHP reminds drivers to call #677 to report impaired drivers or drug activity.
