Woman charged in deadly hit-and-run

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A Springfield woman is now facing murder charges after police say she hit a person crossing Main Street and drove away.

Police say Anna Franceschi was the driver when Yasmin Marin was hit by a car as she left a North End store.

But police also say that instead of stopping, she just drove off.

Franceschi appeared shackled before a judge Tuesday afternoon pleading not guilty to the charges against her.

According to the police report obtained by CBS 3, Franceschi called 911 about 15 minutes after the crash stating that she was involved in an accident saying she "hit the female and she thinks she's dead".

Meantime, Marin was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center.

Springfield police investigated and took statements from witnesses.

Ramon Rodriguez, owner of Rosario's Mini Market, told police that he had been arguing with Franceschi about their relationship minutes before the accident, and that Marin was in the store at the time of the argument.

That was when Marin and her daughter left.

Marin's daughter told police in the report that they were walking across Main Street when the car approached, her mother put her hand up telling Franceschi to stop.

In the report, the daughter said, "She didn't even try to stop ... instead she sped up and drove right into her."

Franceschi faces murder charges as well as non-negligent manslaughter, assault with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault.

She was held without the right to bail and will be back in court March 21.
