AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

UPDATE: Funeral arrangements have been set for 2 year old John Thompson. The family will accept guests at a visitation Tuesday, February 19 from 2pm-7pm at C.A. Reid Senior Memorial Funeral Home.

The funeral will be Wednesday, February 20 at 3pm, also at C.A. Reid Senior Memorial Funeral Home.

Donations are also being accepted to help pay for the funeral at the funeral home.

UPDATE: Lateia Thompson is still coping with the reality that her son is gone. Two year old John Thompson was pulled from their burning home in Harrisburg last Sunday. The boy suffered second degree burns all over is body and was put on life support shortly after arriving to the hospital.

After days of prayer and holding on to hope, Thompson realized her son was not going to pull through.

"From what I was told I really didn't have a chance once they ran the tests and he was officially brain dead there was really nothing I could do about it," said Thompson.

Investigators say the fire started in the kitchen. Two others were home at the time but were unable to reach baby John. By the time firefighters arrived, the boy was severely burned and had already inhaled a significant amount of smoke.

"I mean I figure, why even try to keep him on life support to where he is suffering not being able to do anything at all," said Thompson.

However the mother told FOX54, even though he is gone, he will continue to bring life to others.

"They say he could save up to eight lives," said Thompson.

In spite of everything the grieving mother decided to donate her son's organs, hoping to turn her loss into someone else's happy ending.

"Even though John didn't live on, somebody else's child will and to me, it's kind of like part of him is living on too and even though he was only alive for two years he accomplished something major by saving lives," said Thompson.

Doctors have already found matches for his organs.

If the family is able to cover the funeral costs, they hope to have the funeral Tuesday, Feb. 19. Donations can be made to "Baby John's Funeral Fund" at Reid's Funeral Home.
