Mary Kate Sullivan named 2013 Springfield Colleen

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

After a one-week delay due to last week's blizzard, the Springfield St. Patrick's Parade Committee named its Colleen for 2013 on Saturday night.

Mary Kate Sullivan is the winner.

Her sister won the contest last year.

Sullivan gets the chance to be atop the float on St. Patrick's Day and represent the Irish heritage found in Western Mass.

She said it is quite an honor to get the chance to wear the crown.

In order to qualify for the Springfield Colleen contest, a woman must be between the age of 17 and 22.

They must be of Irish descent and they must be residents of Springfield, East Longmeadow, Hampden, Longmeadow, Ludlow or Wilbraham.
