AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The FPL Plant in Augusta has been shut down for the remainder of the day following an ammonia leak.

Officials at the plant tell FOX54 the leak happened around 9:30 Thursday morning in the refrigeration system. Steve Hixon, Director of Marketing, says they didn't have any injuries, but a few people were taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. All of those employees will be released from the hospital and back home today.

FOX54 is told a few hundred cattle that were at the plant, were also evacuated and taken to their facility in Southeast Georgia.

The building and the staff of about 500 employees were evacuated. The plant will re-open tomorrow morning in time for first shift.
