A gun battle going on Tuesday afternoon between the Los Angeles Police Department and murder Christopher Dorner.A California tv station is reporting two officers have been shot in the Big Bear area. VeryMore >>
The most extensive manhunt in Southern California history appears to have come to an end. It is believed that Christopher Dorner, the ex-cop turned suspected cop killer, died in a cabin near Big Bear, California.
Curiosity drove the interest in the Christopher Dorner manhunt that played out in California, but in the end, for people at the Diner on East 55th, it was some level of fear that a former police officer, a military man, could turn into a cold-blooded killer.
"The most frightening part for me is that a cop would do something like this, and go on the run and getting away with it, it makes me feel like I am not safe," said Diner customer Jasmine Washington.
Then again, for some it's not at all surprising that someone with Dorner's background would snap.
"There's a lot of guys under a lot of stress in that industry, in the police industry and you're going to have guys that breakdown and some things go bad," said Bill Ferkol while having breakfast with his wife. "What are you going to do?" he said.
Dorner was trained in the military and was fired from his job as a Los Angeles cop. He is believed to have killed four people since February 3, and his actions, for some, are simply just a sad sign of the times.
"It seems every time you turn the news on somebody's shooting somebody or killing somebody. It's become a daily episode now, so the way of the world is definitely changing," said Chris Abatsas.
