PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A man on a 10-speed mountain bicycle was killed after he was struck by a Salt River Project truck Wednesday morning.

The victim is identified as 20-year-old Luis Edwardo Santalla.

Santalla was in a crosswalk on westbound Broadway Road trying to cross 19th Avenue and the SRP truck was going east on Broadway and turning south on 19th Avenue when the incident occurred about 8:20 a.m., according to Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department.

Phoenix Fire personnel attempted to render aid to the victim to no avail, Holmes said.

Holmes said no impairment was suspected and the 31-year-old driver was cooperating with police.
