Community leaders discuss controversial gun issues

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Community leaders on both sides of the gun debate participated in a forum at Georgia Regents University Monday night.

Panel members addressed a number of controversial topics, such as armed guards in schools and the impact gun violence has on society.

"Can we put officers in every school? Yeah, it somebody wants to pay." said Robert Partain the Richmond County Colonel of Operations.

"It cost about $19,000 per person who got shot for the medical bills (a year). So there's an enormous financial impact on our society just from the gunshot wounds themselves," said GRU Dr. Richard Schwartz.

Organizers say forums like these are important because they encourage dialogue on important topics.
