Election board cuts names with wrong addresses

Posted: Updated:
AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The Richmond County Board of Elections has finished working to clear individuals with incorrect addresses from their voter records.

In November, the board reported several instances of voters with addresses listed for vacant lots or businesses.

The board challenged 24 individuals from those instances at their meeting Monday night.

None of the 24 individuals showed up for the meeting.

Board of Elections Director Lynn Bailey says she doesn't believe there was any malicious intent, but the addresses still must be correct.

"I don't think there was any blatant attempt at vote fraud through all this. I think it's pure and simply negligence for the most part," she says. "But laying that issue aside, the addresses need to be correct on voters' lists. That's what we seek to have happen every day."

The individuals removed from the list can re-register to vote in Richmond County, but only with the correct addresses.
