Storm wrap-up & western MA snowfall totals

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Our blizzard is moving away and the snow is ending. Overnight snow fell at a rate of 3 inches per hour. This was, for many the biggest snowstorm we've ever seen across southern New England.  It is a record breaker and will go down in New England history books as such.  There are locations in northern CT and eastern MA that are approaching 3 feet and it will snow there through midday. Dangerous because it blocks car tailpipes and vents around the home. Fire officials and gas/electric officials are asking you to clear the snow away from these areas.

The complete list of snowfall totals for western Massachusetts can be found on the CBS3 Pinpoint Weather Blog.

Wind subsides overnight as high pressure builds in. An arctic start to Sunday with sunshine. You'll need the sunglasses with all the reflected light off the snow. Monday we start sunny but a wintry mix to rain showers moves in for Monday afternoon and evening.

Enjoy the great sledding, skiing and snowboarding, snow shoeing and snowmobiling across all of New England now. Winter recreation has been reborn after our mild spell in January and the recent rainfall.

Snow is a great sound absorber. Enjoy the quiet and venture out tonight after snow blowers and plows are done working. There's nothing more beautiful than a walk amongst the quiet of the deep snow under a starlit sky. It disrupts our lives for a day or two, but the beauty of a storm like this is rare. Enjoy.
