Olympic gold medalist visits Fairfield for Winter Games countdown

FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) -

A local Olympic athlete helped the Tri-State count down to the 2014 Winter Games on Thursday.

Gold medalist and Middletown native, Kayla Harrison, visited Fairfield for an event hosted by Liberty Mutual Insurance, a U.S. Olympic sponsor.

The event marked exactly one year until the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, bringing Olympic excitement to Fairfield employees.

Harrison was the first American to ever win a gold medal in Judo, while competing in the 2012 Summer Games in London.

She now trains in Boston, MA but was born in Middletown and is a graduate of West Middletown High School.
