MIDLAND CITY, AL (WSFA) -

An Alabama coroner says the body of a man who held a 5-year-old hostage for nearly a week before being killed in a shootout with the FBI received 'multiple gunshot wounds.'

Dale County Coroner Woodrow Hilboldt said he was allowed into the bunker where Jim Lee Dykes lay Wednesday evening and pronounced him dead at 8:58 p.m.

Hilboldt said Dykes' body had "multiple gunshot wounds," but he declined to give the exact number of wounds or where on his body he had been shot.

The coroner said Thursday that Dykes' body was taken to a state forensics laboratory in Montgomery for an autopsy.

The removal of Dykes' body comes only after bomb technicians with the FBI, ABI and Dothan Police Dept. completed their search for explosive devices in the bunker and on the surrounding 100 acres of property.

Two bomb were found and destroyed during the seach, one inside the bunker and a second inside the PVC pipe through which the man communicated with authorities.

Processing of the scene is expected to last approximately three days.

The Shooting Review Team that was dispatched from Washington D.C to review the facts of this incident, arrived yesterday and continue to gather information.
