LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Nevada law enforcement officials are on alert Thursday with the possible sighting of a former Los Angeles police officer on the run for murder.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol, troopers at the Primm district at the California-Nevada border were briefed on suspect Christopher Dorner.

Dorner was identified as the suspect in the slayings of a couple in Irvine, Calif. on Sunday and the ambush of officers in Riverside, Calif. early Thursday.

NHP troopers were instructed to keep watch of Dorner's vehicle and license plate. Law enforcement described Dorner's vehicle as a gray Nissan Titan with California license plate 8D83987. The vehicle has a ski rack on top, according to California law enforcement.

Authorities noted Dorner may have been changing license plates while on the run.

In addition, the vehicle's description is expected to be displayed on digital road signs on highways.

Los Angeles Police Department noted the 33-year-old black male is considered armed and dangerous. He was described as 6', 270 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Dorner noted in a manifesto made public Thursday that he lived in Las Vegas in the past. There was no indication from law enforcement, though, that he was heading to southern Nevada.
