The Fresh Market to bring jobs to Aiken

Posted: Updated:

A store coming to Aiken is looking to hire nearly 100 people. The Fresh Market will hold an open house on Wednesday for anyone interested in applying.

FOX54 talked to employers about what they looking for and how applicants are preparing.

Chris Travis is the general manager at The Fresh Market in Augusta and is preparing for an overwhelming turnout at the job open house for their newest store in Aiken.

"We plan to have up to 600 people there interviewing," said Travis.

Travis said the store is only looking to fill between 80 and 100 positions with specific qualifications.

"We are looking for people who have good customer experience, previous grocery experience, someone who can work in a fast changing environment," said Travis.

The Fresh Market in Aiken is supposed to open sometime in late March and is not only bringing jobs but also making life a little bit easier for people who enjoy shopping there.

Cathy Wunderlich lives in Johnston, S.C. She's a loyal customer who travels nearly 40 minutes just to go to The Fresh Market in Augusta. When the new store opens, it will cut her time in half; an advantage that has the retiree planning to apply for a job there.

"I was actually hoping to do some volunteer work or some part time work," said Wunderlich.

The General Manager said people need to go online to apply before coming to the open house and Wunderlich has already been online looking at the different types of job openings.

"Most of the jobs I saw online were sales associates. I was cruising through the departments trying to envision myself working in the bakery or in the floral or in some of the departments that are out there," said Wunderlich.

The manager said they are optimistic for Wednesday.

"We are hoping with up to 100 people we can get the best, most qualified out there," said Travis.

The key Travis said is to come prepared and set yourself a part from everyone else.

The open house will be Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Woodside Plantation Country Club in Aiken.
