TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The
Anthony Wayne hockey team is gearing up for their biggest game of the year
against rival Maumee, but their game Friday is about more than just hockey.
Josie
Langsdorf was able to cross a special item – meeting reality star Scott Disick –
off her bucket list, thanks in large part to support from the Anthony Wayne community.
Now their hockey team is playing in her honor.
"It's
the biggest rivalry in our division, no doubt," said Chris Miller, captain of
the Anthony Wayne Generals. "Two undefeated teams."
Head
Coach Troy Boze compared the rivalry to Ohio State vs. Michigan.
So
why not make it even bigger?
"Having
the big game toward the end of the season, we knew it would draw a big crowd,"
Boze said. "So to kind of help [Langsdorf] along, knowing the story behind her,
we figured it would be a great chance to get a big crowd in, but also have it
go toward a good cause."
Langsdorf,
40, was diagnosed with terminal cancer two years ago. The game Friday will
feature a 50/50 raffle, auction, and more – all in support of Langsdorf, so she
can continue to cross items off her bucket list.
"It's
a very tight-knit community out there," Boze said. "Her oldest daughter
graduated from Anthony Wayne last year, she's got a younger daughter coming
through the school district right now. We just wanted to show her the support
and love that Anthony Wayne has for her and her family."
The
doors will open at 6:30 p.m. at the Tam O'Shanter, the puck drops at 7.
