Residents claim there is raw sewage at their apartment complex

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

When Verleria Cooper and Audris Cooper play with their girls, you can't miss the smiles on their faces.

But they say some problems at the ShadoWoods apartments have been souring their smiles.

"Smells like straight sewage, we were sick to our stomachs," said Audris Cooper.

She thinks the brown water that is running through parking lot could be sewage.

The Coopers have asked management to test the water for contamination but so far nothing has been done.

They're also concerned about what they say are pipes spitting toilet paper out of an apartment building.

"I'm so concerned about my safety with me and my son because we have lines out here that are busted and we have tissues coming out of pipes with waste," Verleria Cooper, said.

Audris Cooper said she's also been asking the landlord for a year to fill a hole that her daughter fell in.

"My child fell in this hole and busted her head. I let the landlord know and she did absolutely nothing about it."

The Coopers say they have petitioned management to take care of the problems; but since nothing has been done they are now signing a petition asking for new management.

"I want to move, I want my mom to move out of here, it's not right," said Rachel Davis.

The onsite manager told us she couldn't comment about their concerns.

But Ronda Dobbs, the regional manager who is based in Atlanta, told Fox54 she hasn't been told about the problems.

She says she will follow up with the concerns of residents that we brought to her attention.

"If we get things fixed out here, we will stay out here," said Davis.

Dobbs tells Fox54 the residents at the apartment complex have her phone number and her address and they have been encouraged to call her anytime there are any problems.

She says she visits the apartment complex every month or two.
