HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

If you've taken Beasley Road in Jackson lately, you may have noticed the county's largest Valentine in the form of a roadside billboard.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis is pictured sporting a holiday colored tie and a "Happy Valentine's Day" message, decorated with the staples of the day, candy and roses.

HCSO Spokesperson Othor Cain says the billboard is simply the sheriff's way of saying 'thank you.'

"The billboard is the sheriff's way to say 'thank you' to the citizens and residents of the county for having faith in him and his team," explains Cain.

Cain adds the giant greeting isn't actually a new plan, it's something the sheriff has enjoyed doing for a number of years.

"This didn't start with Valentine's Day," smiles Cain, "we have a billboard for each holiday. Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, Easter, we do them all."

Sheriff Lewis is dedicated to the neighbors of Hinds County and beyond saying 'thank you' to the communities, Lewis uses the billboard to remind drivers-by that the sheriff's office has an open door of communication.

"The sheriff wants to remind people that [the sheriff's office] is here," declares Cain.

When it comes to funding for the extra large holiday card, Cain says Sheriff Lewis has, in the past, used campaign funds to produce the billboards, but these days he's opening his own wallet.

"The sheriff pays for these billboards out of his own pocket. It's covered by his own funds," states Cain.

If you'd like to return the Valentine's Day greeting to Sheriff Lewis or his team, head to their Facebook page.
