McDuffie Co. murder suspect makes first court appearance

The suspect in a Saturday McDuffie County murder made his first court appearance Monday afternoon.

Winston Smith, 21, had his bail hearing deferred to Superior Court at a later date.

Smith is accused of shooting and killing 36 year old Jonathan Curry after an altercation at a home on the 100 block of Pounds St.

Smith faces murder charges, and if convicted, could receive a life sentence or the death penalty.
