Winter weather advisory for the Pioneer Valley

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

From the CBS 3 Weather Desk, a winter weather advisory is in effect here in the Pioneer Valley as a wintry mix is already blanketing the region.

Snow began falling in the Greater Springfield area shortly before noon and Meteorologist Nick Morganelli says to expect light to moderate snow through 4 p.m., which will mix with sleet during the evening commute.

According to Morganelli, most areas, except Franklin County, will experience sleet and freezing rain Monday evening. Franklin County faces greater hazards this evening as their temperatures are lower at 20 degrees.

As of now, accumulations are an inch or less for the lower valley and 1 to 2 inches north of the Holyoke range, including Hadley, Greenfield and Deerfield.

The weather should be finished near midnight, though patchy freezing drizzle may continue for a while tonight.

Police and Public Works Departments are already prepared for the poor conditions and ask people to stay off the roads if possible.
