LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) -

Athletes competed in their final day of the Special Olympics Kentucky State Winter Games on Tuesday.

Nearly 100 athletes took part in the games at Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, including alpine skiing and snowshoeing events at several different skill levels throughout the week.

In addition, more than 100 volunteers were on-hand to support the athletes. Members of the Cincinnati Ski Club served as one-on-one instructors on Sunday and Monday, before turning the athletes loose to race on Tuesday.

Sunday's opening ceremonies featured a parade of the athletes and the lighting of the Special Olympics cauldron. Time trials were then held on Monday afternoon to determine which division the athletes would fall in for Tuesday.

On Tuesday, each athlete competed in two events, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

An award ceremony was then held following the day's events.

Sunday's opening ceremonies marked the Kentucky State Winter Game's 33rd anniversary. This year also marked the 16th year that the games have been held at Perfect North Slopes.
