NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Police have charged an off-duty correctional officer after he allegedly agreed to bring drugs to inmates at a west Nashville jail.
Nicholas D. Smith, 27, of Madison, is accused of meeting a police informant at a Shelby Avenue gas station, where he said he would take marijuana and cocaine to the Charles Bass Correction Facility for a fee.
Smith, who has worked for the Department of Correction since August 2011, was then pulled over while in possession of the drugs, police said.
He is charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana for resale while traveling within drug-free school zones and was jailed on $55,000 bond.
