STOW, OH (WOIO) -

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that a man convicted of arson in Stow was given the maximum sentence.

Judge Tammy O'Brien sentenced 50-year-old Scott Purk to 28 years in prison.

Official reports state that Purk burned down his house in Stow in March 2009 in order to collect insurance money. The residence was a total loss in that incident. The insurance company paid out a total of approximately $150,000 in claims.

He then set fire to a duplex in Stow in March 2010.  The resident of the duplex was at home and asleep when the fire started, but managed to escape unharmed.

The Stow Police Department spent two years investigating these crimes with assistance from the Stow and Cuyahoga Falls Fire Departments.

On December 13, 2012, Purk pleaded guilty near the end of his trial to all of the charges in his indictment. Most of the charges against Purk were felonies of various degrees.  Those charges include Attempted Aggravated Murder; three counts of Aggravated Arson; three counts of Aggravated Arson; Insurance Fraud; two counts of Disrupting Public Services and two counts of Endangering Children.
