AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
Residents
on Douglas Street say their neighborhood is generally a quiet area, but last
night that silence was broken.
"I
was in the house with my god-sister," said Ashley Williams, a neighbor off Douglas Street. "We were sitting there watching TV. Then we heard about six, seven shots go off."
"I
was in the house watching TV and I just heard gun shots firing," said Faye Williams, a neighbor off Douglas Street.
Richmond
County investigators said Kentrell Wright, 23, was shot while he was
walking home. Investigators say two men first robbed Wright of his money and
cell phone; then when he was trying to get away they started shooting at him
with semi-automatic handguns. Investigators say one of the bullets hit Wright
just below his left ear exiting out the left side of his upper lip.
Deputies
say Wright was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition.
Neighbors
are surprised this happened in their area.
"So
far we haven't had any violence or nothing around here in a long, long time,
and everything has been calm, so for something like that to happen at that time
of night is really out of the ordinary," Ashley Williams said.
"Every now and then, we have things that
happen, but that's every 10, 15 years," Faye Williams said. "But basically we have a real good
neighborhood."
Now deputies are
searching for the two suspects. Investigators say both men were seen leaving
the area possibly in a black Mitubishi driven by a third suspect. As for
neighbors, they hope their area turns back into the quiet neighborhood they
once enjoyed.
