Investigators searching for answers in alleged bullying victim's suicide

Posted: Updated:
GROVETOWN, GA (WFXG) -

The Grovetown Department of Public Safety is looking into the suicide death of a Grovetown Middle School student.

Jerad Meriweather, 13, took his own life after allegedly being bullied.

Investigators are trying to find out if bullying or hazing took place, according to GDPS officials.

Columbia County Board of Education is also looking into the matter.

Dr. Sandra Carraway, the deputy superintendent, says the school system is "looking into the matter" and will "prevent [bullying]" in the future, if that is discovered to be an issue.

FOX54 does not typically report on suicides, but the alleged circumstances around the case warrant reporting.
