Mid-Michigan readies for Inauguration Day

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (WNEM) -

President Barack Obama has already begun his second term in office with a private swearing-in ceremony at the White House.

He'll be sworn in for a second time Monday on the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building and hundreds of thousands of people are expected to be there for the event.

Monday's Inauguration will not only be in front of supporters in Washington; millions of people nationwide are expected to watch the event take place on television.

Several Michigan congressional members were also in Washington on Sunday, hosting an open house.

A Michigan high school marching band is in Washington, as Cass Tech High School in Detroit was invited to take part in the inaugural festivities.

They'll be performing during the swearing-in ceremony and in the inaugural parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Detroit Cass Tech sent 57 students and seven adults on the trip, which cost $75,000. Part of the trip was paid for by two different charities.

While hundreds of thousands of people will be attending, 2,000 law enforcement officers from across the country will be on hand to make sure no problems arise.

The swearing-in ceremony will begin around 11:30 a.m., with the president giving his inaugural speech shortly after.
