MILAN, Mich. (AP) -

Officials have seized 45 dogs and 20 cats in two Washtenaw County animal hoarding cases.

AnnArbor.com and the Detroit Free Press report two cats and 45 dogs were taken from a Milan-area home last week. The Humane Society of Huron Valley says the animals' owner was an elderly woman with health issues who couldn't live on her own anymore.

Animal cruelty charges aren't being sought in that case.

In a separate case, investigators seized 18 cats last week from a home in Ypsilanti Township. The Humane Society of Huron Valley says it plans to pursue animal cruelty charges in that case.

Officials say many of the animals were in need of medical care, but they likely will be put up for adoption. Donations also are being sought.
