AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for two suspects involved in assaulting a man, stealing his car, then fleeing deputies.

It all started on the 900 block of Cedar Street when deputies responded to calls of an assault.

Deputies found Benjamin Rhodes, 38, severely beaten at the scene, which was his residence. Rhodes alleged to deputies that his roommate, Michael Gibson, Gibson's brother Freddie, and Charles Kellam, committed the assault. Rhodes also said his vehicle was taken during the incident.

Deputies on the hunt for the vehicle say a traffic unit on Gordon Highway at Sky View Drive spotted the vehicle and pursued it. The vehicle struck another vehicle as it fled. It then crashed into a ditch at New Savannah Road at Sky View Drive.

Kellam, who was driving the vehicle, fled on foot but was taken into custody after a brief struggle. He is charged with aggravated assault; armed robbery; false imprisonment; theft by taking; and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Rhodes was transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Gibson brothers are still on the loose and have yet to be apprehended.

Lt. Calvin Chew tells FOX54 that the investigation is still in its early stages.
