"The secret to success is the ability to look outside the box and to open your imagination to see things in a new way", says Haupt from Haupt Antiek Market.
Tip #1: A wood chair is great for sitting on but if it is no longer need it for that purpose, then turn it into hook rack. Cut the back off of the chair, add some decorative hooks and attach it to the wall. It becomes a decorative piece of wall art and a place to hang jewelry, coats, scarves or hats.
Tip #2: Take that same chair and create a fun way to hang clothes in a college dorm or small apartment. Find a flat back chair and hang it up on the wall so the legs with the braces are at shoulder height. Use the seat as a shelf and the braces of the chair as a place to hang clothes.
Tip #3: A new purpose for old 24 bottle pop crates is to create interesting storage cubbies. Hang it on the wall with the cubbies out, you have a visually interesting place to store earrings, small cards, art supplies or bathroom toiletries and makeup. Use two or three and make an arrangement on the wall.
Tip #4: Baby cribs especially old iron ones have wonderful re-purposing powers. The bottom spring comes out and attaches to the wall for a display board. The springs create a fun way to display photos, cards or holiday ornaments. The end and side pieces turned on their sides become magazine racks or scarf or jewelry holders.
Tip #5: Sporting equipment – snow ski’s, snowshoes, toboggans, water ski’s or ice skates can be recreated into fun shelves. When you add brackets to the bottom of a single ski, or a snow shoe and mount it to the wall horizontally, it creates an interesting shelf. If you turn the skates over, the blade becomes the top of the bracket and a piece of wood or glass can be glued to the top of the blade to become the shelf. The toboggan can be mounted on brackets horizontally, like the ski’s to create a deep shelf or attached vertically, flat to the wall. Brackets can be added and 3 shelves can be added to display books or other vintage treasures.
