Fired police officer appeal denied

Officials in Muscle Shoals have upheld the firing of a police officer who was terminated after fatally shooting a deer while on duty.

The Florence Times Daily (http://bit.ly/Y8lY5p ) reports former Muscle Shoals police officer Greg Scoggins appealed his Dec. 27 firing but the Civil Service board voted unanimously Tuesday to uphold his termination.

Scoggins was placed on administrative leave and was later fired following allegations that he after he shot and killed deer on Tennessee Valley Authority property while on duty in late December. Authorities say Scoggins was charged with reckless endangerment, hunting without a permit and hunting without the aid of a motor vehicle.

Scoggins was an 11-year department veteran.
