HUMBOLDT, AZ (CBS5) -

A community is mourning the death of a sheriff's deputy and his 17-year-old son who were killed Friday in a single-vehicle crash.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said Lt. Wayne Loughrige, 51, and his son, Joseph Arter, 17, were killed in the crash on southbound Hwy 69 in Humboldt, AZ.

DPS officer said Loughrige's Dodge Durango drifted into the center median, he over corrected and lost control before hitting an embankment.

The father and son died at the scene.

DPS said they do not believe speed or impairment was a factor in the accident.

Loughrige joined Yavapai County Sheriff's Office back in 1991.

A memorial service is scheduled for Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. at Yavapai College Performance Hall at 1100 Sheldon St. in Prescott.
