AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -
A systems analyst from Columbia County has won a top prize from the Georgia
Lottery. Melissa Strickland, 55, played the instant game White Ice 8's and won
a $28,888 prize.
Sprint
Foods #0007, 3701 Washington Road in Martinez, sold the winning ticket.
"I
scratched it while getting gas," Strickland said. "I still feel a little
shocked."
With
a son currently in high school, Strickland intends to save the prize for use
toward his college education.
Since
its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion
to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay
for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program
and Georgia's Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE,
and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary
pre kindergarten program.
