SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A suspect in an attempted armed robbery was captured by Scottsdale police after he tried to flee Sunday night.

Police said Maurice Williams, 24, of Phoenix, is suspected of trying to rob the Quality Tobacco store at 7110 E. Thomas Rd. at gunpoint. Police said he demanded cash from an employee, but was not given any money.

He fled to a nearby business called Coughing Canary Smoke Shop, where he tried to hide from police, officers said.

Police saw him running toward the intersection of Scottsdale and Thomas roads, where he was taken into custody.

He had discarded some of his clothes in a nearby Dumpster, and a handgun suspected of being used in the crime was found on a nearby roof.

No one was injured, police said.
