Commission to vote on taxi cab regulation

Posted: Updated:
AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Augusta-Richmond County Commissioners will vote on a taxi cab regulation at their next meeting.

The proposal will regulate how old a cab vehicle can be to be in service. The proposal states all cabs older than ten years old can no longer be in service by the end of this year, and cabs older than eight years can no longer be in service by the end of 2014.

For some independent cab owners, the regulation could negatively impact their business. But other cab owners say the measure will put cab companies at an advantage.

"It will bring you more business and more customers," said Teiwo Olen, he's owned Speedy Cab of Augusta for the past five years. "The better your vehicle, the better the people will patronize  you."

Commissioners will vote on Tuesday.
