(RNN) - The White House responded to the more than 290 petitions on the website We the People on Friday.
From those wanting to impeaching President Barack Obama to investigating Karl Rove for vote tampering, petitions were dynamic in scope, seriousness and repetition. Some asked to secede from the Union, and numerous others called for the strange and outlandish.
One citizen, perhaps a fan of sci-fi movies and fearing invasion of intergalactic enemies decided to propose their wishes to the Obama administration:
"Secure resources and funding and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016. As mentioned before, those who fear intergalactic bullying or want to contribute to intergalactic bullying desire passage of this petition. A leg up on alleged space invaders is always good."
"The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it," the letter said.
The letter also points out that it's not the position of the U.S. Government to blow up planets or "spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship."
Any petition has 30 days to pass a signature threshold of 25,000. Once past a preliminary period it's reviewed by a White House official and given a response to the petition.
Many of the quirky petitions failed to obtain enough signatures.
The desire for incandescent light bulbs to return to the market failed to receive enough signatures, as well as the petitions to transfer funds from the drug war to fund the research and development for the research of the genetic engineering of domestic cat girls.
However, the petition for Vice President Joe Biden to have his own television show is still open for a little bit longer, but has nowhere near 25,000 signatures.
The petitions also reflect serious issues the country is grappling with, including the debate about gun control.
CNN's Piers Morgan has numerous petitions involving either his deportation or his remaining in the U.S. based on his gun control views. Morgan has laughed them off, and even come face to face with the petitions' creator. The petition to deport Morgan exceeded the threshold, receiving 109,334 signatures. The White House has responded to the petition and Morgan isn't going anywhere.
The website We the People was created by the Obama Administration in September 2011 to allow, encourage, and promote general issues to be brought up to the White House by the American public.
