Hundreds protest right-to-work law in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -

Lawmakers returning to Michigan's Capitol for the new year have been greeted by hundreds of demonstrators still upset over a law limiting unions' power.

More than 200 protested on Wednesday morning and held up signs near Capitol entrances with photos of Republican legislators next to the word "shame." They're mad about the speed and way in which the GOP majority passed a right-to-work law a month ago.

The law prohibits requirements that workers pay union dues or fees as a condition of employment.

House members are in Lansing to be sworn in and elect leaders. The official oath of office will be taken after session begins at noon.

Senators are in the midst of four-year terms and expected to have a short session without voting Wednesday.
