Local, state elected officials meet before GA General Assembly

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

State legislators from Augusta met with local elected officials to discuss concerns before the 2013 General Assembly.

State Senators and Representatives met with several elected Richmond Co. officials, including Mayor Deke Copenhaver and Sheriff Richard Roundtree among others, at the Richmond Co. Library Tuesday to share ideas before the General Assembly convenes next week.

They say it's a chance for state and local officials to work together to better Augusta.

"It was a good first step in terms of bridging that gap and making sure that we've created a culture where we can work more collaboratively together to be successful as a community," says Senator Hardie Davis (D-22).

This was the first pre-legislative meeting, but officials hope to continue the meetings every year.
