People of Newtown discuss future of Sandy Hook Elementary School building

NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -

The discussion continues about what to do with Sandy Hook Elementary School and now, forums are planned to get public input on the subject.

According to Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra, there's no concrete plans yet for the future of Sandy Hook.

Town officials told Eyewitness News that they'll be hosting at least two and possibly three open forums for the public to add input as they figure out what to do with the school.

The first forum is scheduled for Jan. 13 at the Newtown High School from 3-4:30 p.m. The second session is scheduled for Jan. 18 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Newtown High School.

Residents' opinions on what to do with the building vary.

"The school should be made into a memorial where everyone can go every year, to pay respects every week, every month," said Catherine Urso, who plans to attend one of the forums. "They can cry there if you want to cry there, meditate and make hearts heal."

"I think they should tear it down," said Carol Nykazl.

On Dec. 14, Adam Lanza, 20, shot and killed his mother while she slept at her home before he went to Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed 20 children and six adults. He killed himself as police made their way into the building.

Sandy Hook Elementary School remained a crime scene Monday as state police continue to investigate a motive.
