5 men caught human smuggling; girl, 3, in vehicle

MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

Five men have been arrested and booked into Fourth Avenue Jail in a human smuggling operation that involved a 3-year-old girl.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said two other people in the vehicle were turned over to ICE.

Arpaio said the five illegal immigrants had paid the driver $1,500 each to be smuggled into the U.S.

They brought a 3-year-old who wasn't in a seatbelt.

Arpaio said the group crossed the border near Altar, Mexico, and was headed for California.
