Daughter of Newtown principal to hold fundraiser

Dawn Hochsprung Dawn Hochsprung
HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -

The daughter of Sandy Hook Elementary School Principal Dawn Hochsprung will hold a fundraiser in honor of her heroic mother.

Hochsprung was killed last month when Adam Lanza entered the school and killed 20 children and six adults, including Hochsprung.

Erica Lafferty, Hochsprung's daughter, said her mother ran at Lanza when she realized what was occurring and said something to the effect of "shooter stay back" before being shot and killed.

She called her mother perfect - perfect mother, perfect daughter, perfect teacher and perfect administrator.

"Perfect's the word to describe her," Lafferty said.

Lafferty, who recently got her mother's signature as a tattoo, said the fundraiser is being held on Monday in North Haven from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Paul Mitchell School.

Volunteers at the fundraiser will be donating haircuts and will sell bracelets that read "What Would Dawn Do?" for scholarship money to Naugatuck High School student pursuing a degree in education There will be a raffle and a bake sale at the event as well.

"We're trying to see how much we can get together because we want it to go for as long as we can and we won't give up," she said.

The goal for Lafferty is to make her mother proud and take care of her family including Hochsprung's sisters and husband.

Hochsprung is a Naugatuck native, and the money raised will go towards a scholarship in her name for a Naugatuck High School student pursuing a career in education.
